Stone of Anointing

This is the place where Jesus' body was prepared for burial by Joseph of Arimathea had after it had been removed from the cross on the Golgotha Hill: "So they took the body of Jesus and bound it in linen wrappings with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews." John 19:40

Since it was not possible to bury Jesus in Nazareth, Joseph of Arimathea suggested burying him in his burial cave just next to the crucifixion site. Many pilgrims sprayed the place with perfume and rose water. Touching and kissing the stone, laying pictures, letters and different objects in order to spread the sanctity of Jesus.
