Edgar Allan Poe

Born January 19th 1809 - Died October 7th 1849

Born in Boston, Poe is regarded as one of the finest and most influential American writers of all time. Short-story scribe, poet and critic, Poe's life and death were as unusual, dark and mysterious as much of his work. He is also widely credited as being the catalyst of the modern day detective story. Having had broken relationships with his parents and siblings, the young Poe eventually found himself living with his aunt, whose daughter, his cousin, Virginia, he would go on to marry in 1836 when she was only 13. Her death eleven years later is something that he failed to cope with and after two years of poor mental health and battles with alcohol, he too died in 1849. The cause of his death has never been fully solved.

May his soul rest in Peace.
