Janis Joplin

Born January 19th 1943 - Died October 4th 1970

The legendary female singer was born in Texas' Port Arthur and discovered her musical talents early on. Influenced greatly by folk and the blues, Joplin played in bars while attending college. Always a bohemian outsider, Joplin became caught up in drugs during the early 60's. Throughout the decade her creative gift became more widely recognized and in 1969 she performed at the Woodstock festival. The following year, Joplin finally succumbed to her demons and died of an overdose in a Hollywood hotel room. It saw her become one of the most famous members of the macabre Club 27.

May her soul rest in peace.
