Ramon Dekkers, Dayle Robertson, Stephane Hessel, William Perehudoff & Bob Godfrey have

passed away. May their souls rest in peace.




Ramon Dekkers: September 4th 1969 – February 27th 2013
Eight time world champion Dutch muay thai kick-boxer, Ramon Dekkers, passed away this week aged 43. Born in Breda, the Netherlands, Dekkers studied various forms of martial arts from an early age and won his country’s national muay thai title at the age of 18.  After becoming one of the greatest fighters of age, Dekkers retired in 2001. Remaining in the sport, he took to coaching two teams - Team Dekkers and Golden Glory. He made a comeback in 2005, losing the match then a year later took part in a final retirement super-fight against Joerie Mes, a close bout which Mes narrowly won. From then until his death, Dekkers coached muay thai in his home city.


Dayle Robertson: July 14th 1923 – February 27th 2013 

Film and television actor Dayle Robertson has passed away at the age of 89. Robertson was born in Harrah, Oklahoma where he trained to become a professional boxer before attending the state’s military academy, later fighting in the Second World War for which he received the Bronze and Silver Stars. After spotting a photograph of him, he was courted by a variety of Hollywood film agents. He went on to appear in over 60 movies, though will be most fondly remembered for his part in the cowboy TV series, “Tales of Wells Fargo”. Robertson has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and is survived by his wife, two daughters and a grand-daughter. 


Stephane Hessel: October 20th 1917 – February 26th 2013

Stephane Hessel, a diplomat, writer and Second World War concentration camp survivor has passed away this week at the age of 95. Though born in Bern, Germany, Hessel became a citizen of France in 1939 where he was a leading member of the French Resistance. Foreign policy Magazine named Hessel in its list of top global thinkers in 2011. His book, “Time For Outrage” sold in excess of 4 million copies worldwide and is credited with inspiring a host of political movements across the globe, including the Occupy Wall Street Movement. Hessel is survived by his wife and three children from a previous marriage.


William Perehudoff: 1919 – February 26th 2013

Renowned abstract artist, William Perehudoff, has passed away at the age of 94. Born in Langham, Canada, he went on the attend the Fine Arts Center of Colorado as well as a stint at the Ozenfant School of Fine Art in New York. His work is shown in some of his country’s most prestigious institutions such as the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Montreal Museum of Fine Art. 1994 saw him honored with the Saskatchewan Order of Merit, five years later, the Order of Canada. Perehudoff gave up art in the 2001 due to a turn in his health. He was married to painter, Dorothy Knowles, who survives him along with three daughters, three grand-children and his sister.


Bob Godfrey: January 27th 1921 – February 21st 2013

Leading British animator, Bob Godfrey, has passed away at the age of 91. His award-winning creations included the children’s series, “Roobarb” and “Henry’s Cat”. Godfrey’s short film, “Great” saw him honored with a BAFTA and an Academy award, with three further nominations for Oscars and two more BAFTA wins to follow. Born in West Maitland, Australia, he moved to England as a youngster where he attended the Leyton School of Art before fighting in the Second World War. Godfrey’s career break came in 1950 when he was taken on at Larkins Studio, during which time he worked alongside Peter Sachs. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
