Svetozar Giloric, Helen Gurley, Harry Harrison, Nellie Gray, Michael Snow have passed away. May their souls rest in peace.

One of the world's finest ever chess players, Svetozar Giloric, has died aged 89. Giloric was the winner of the Yugoslavian Chess Championship an unsurpassed dozen times and was the captain of his nation's gold winning Chess Olympiad team in 1950, fending off the heavily favoured Russians. An icon of the game, he has had numerous chess moves named after him. Griloric was born in Belgrade on February 2nd 1923 and by the age of 16 he had become a chess master. He also fought as a guerrilla soldier against Germany and its allies in the Second World War and later during his illustrious career wrote many chess books.

Writer and former editor of Cosmopolitan Magazine, Helen Gurley, has passed away at the age of 90. Her 1962 book, "Sex and the Single Girl" gained notoriety upon its release for its brazen discussion of female sex, including extra-marital experiences and her memoirs, "I'm Wild Again" published nearly forty years later caused a further stir because of her total change in attitude. Born in Green Forest, Arkansas on February 18th 1922, Gurley worked her way to becoming a legal secretary for a Hollywood firm of lawyers and her career break followed when she secured a copywriting position from which there was no looking back. She married Hollywood producer David Brown in 1959, becoming Cosmo's editor-in-chief six years later and would hold the position for over three decades.

Sci-Fi scribe Harry Harrison has passed away at the age of 87. He was most well-known for his series "The Stainless Steel Rat" and even within the science-fiction genre he incorporated his own unique voice and blend of humor, politics and fantasy. Born in Connecticut's' Stamford on March 12th 1925, Harrison fought during the Second World War before pursuing a career in writing that would result in over 70 books and essays that will see him remembered as one of the most respected and influential Sci-Fi writers of his age.

Leading anti-abortion activist Nellie Gray has passed away aged 88 in her house in Washington. Previously a lawyer, Gray rose to prominence with her decision to dedicate her life to the anti-abortion cause following the 1973 Supreme Court case Roe vs. Wade. She went on to become one of the founders of the March for Life of which she would remain in charge for nearly 40 years. Even after her retirement, the march continued being one of the country's most significant annual protests. Gray was born in Big Spring, Texas on June 25th 1924 and headed to Europe during the Second World War with the Women's Army Corps.

Renowned British artist Michael Snow has passed away this week aged 82. Famed for drawing on a wide-ranging pool of inspirational ideas from science to music and even geology, such a perfectionist was Snow that it had been known for him to take years to decide whether to show a finished piece, with some paintings never even making a public viewing. Born in Manchester, Snow developed his talents during what is considered to be a golden era of British art. In 1957 he founded the Peterloo Group along with literary critic Robin Skelton. Snow is survived by his son, Justin.
